Removal involves pumping out remaining fuel, flushing the old tank, disconnecting fuel lines and venting pipes, and hauling the tank away. For underground tanks, excavation and proper disposal following environmental regulations is required, which we coordinate with licensed hazmat contractors. Installation includes positioning the new tank on a solid, level base, running new fuel lines with proper slope for gravity drainage to the burner, installing or upgrading venting to prevent vacuum conditions that starve the furnace of fuel, and testing for leaks. We size tanks based on your home's square footage, insulation, heating system efficiency, and typical delivery frequency—ensuring you're not overpaying for oversized capacity or struggling with constant small deliveries. / We also handle tank maintenance: annual cleaning to remove sediment and water that accumulates at the tank bottom, fuel filter changes on the supply line, and inspection of fuel nozzles and pump performance. Water in oil tanks causes corrosion from the inside and clogs fuel systems, so annual maintenance prevents this. If your tank shows rust, pinhole leaks, or fuel smell around your home, we diagnose the problem and recommend replacement. For homes switching from oil to natural gas or propane, we remove and properly dispose of the old oil tank and cap underground tanks if they remain.
